Many of the people in my personal sphere are a bit distraught by the US Presidential election results which came out last week. Whichever side you are or aren’t on, here is a spiritual way of looking at the election results which will hopefully transcend the mass media frenzy.
The Law of Attraction: Like Attracts Like
To bring up the law of attraction may seem cliché—but it still resonates true for a reason and is exemplified by the recent election. The law of attraction states that what you focus on becomes your reality. For example, if I focus on the fact that I don’t have friends, it will become my reality. Similarly, if I focus on the election in a way, I can also create this. Collectively, America and the world at large were very focused (be it negatively or positively) on a candidate (and that candidate won).
Many may argue that one candidate one the popular vote but not the election, so how can this follow the principal of the law of attraction? Actually, it follows it perfectly because the law of attraction transcends material nature. The focus on one candidate made that candidate the next president, despite popular vote, because people’s consciousness was still so focused on being “anti” someone. Instead of being anti anything, let’s be pro the things we want as a country.
The Solution: Every living being has the power to collectively focus on joining together and making the best out of the situation we have been dealt. It’s high time to stop focusing our energy against a certain candidate and towards manifesting America to be the best it can be. Together we rise, together we fall.
Karma: What you sew you shall reap.
This perspective is a bit controversial. According to the Vedas and yoga (which are the traditions I follow) our past actions can also determine our reality and what we receive. This is a widely known concept known as karma.
Now you may be thinking, what does my Karma have to do with the presidential election results?
It’s not just your karma, it’s the world’s karma and America’s in particular. Nations do have a collective karma which its residents all share but are affected by differently due to individual karma and circumstances. Nations get the leader the “deserve” based on past actions. Receiving “bad” leaders could be a karmic result of doing negative things in the past such as waging war on other countries and so forth.
The Solution: Now is the time to create good karma for the USA and for the World. We can become empowered as a nation to do good by other nations and our own people, as well as the environment.
Time to Wake Up:
Many of you, if you are anything like me, may feel that the world is on the brink of a spiritual revolution. Personally, I see this election as a major wake-up call and a majorly good reason to choose spiritual life and wake up to what’s going on in the world.
There is a Bengali song which I am rather fond of which goes:
jīv jāgo, jīv jāgo, gauracānda bole kota nidrā jāo māyā-piśācīra kole
This translates to: The beloved Lord is calling, “Wake up, wake up sleeping souls, you have been sleeping too much in illusions, how long will you fall under this spell?”
The Solution: Realize that now is the time to rise up, wake and grow up and realize our nature as spiritual beings having a human experience. These notions of politics are just a reflection of the contamination of the mind which we have the power to control through spiritual connection and community.
